Almost 90% patients have queries like

  • How to reduce Refractive Error (spectacle power)
  • How to prevent themselves or their kids from getting Refractive Error
  • How to prevent Cataract or reduce chances of getting it in their future
  • How to prevent Macular Degeneration

Now, frankly speaking none of the above can be achieved, but the impact of disease can be reduced by the following protocol

  • Maintain a good healthy Diet. Colored Fruits and Vegetables which can be eaten raw are good for the eyes.
  • Adequate sleep ( Atleast 7 hrs. in a day)
  • Diet schedule (Time) i.e having meals at proper time
  • Extended use of eye-drops without doctor’s advice also causes multiple eye problems like dryness of eyes, cataract, glaucoma, eye infections etc.
  • Eyes should be prevented from direct exposure of dust, smoke, toxic fumes
  • Proper lighting should be maintained while reading.
  • Computer free time (say 10 minutes every hour) should be taken by people who have continuous PC work
  • People having chronic Diseases like High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Arthritis on long-term medication should have Eye-checkups twice in a year.

CLEANING OF EYES

  • The surrounding of eyes should be kept clean by washing of eyes 3-4 times a day with eyes closed
  • Donot splash water directly inside the eyes.
  • Donot put any eyedrops which were opened more than a month before
  • Donot put drops which are unsterile e.g. Rose water from non-reputed company.

WHILE READING

  • Proper posture should be maintained either read in sitting position or in lying down position book should not be over our head.
  • Light should be adequate and should come from behind or over-head
  • Blink adequately
  • Drink enough Water

INSTILLLATION OF EYE-DROPS

  • Eye Drops should be put inside the eye after retracting the lower eye-lid down.
  • A single drop at a time is enough to start the action of medicine.
  • A gap of at-least 15 minutes should be kept between 2 different eye-drops.
  • The tip of bottle should not touch anywhere ( eyelid, eyelashes, fingers etc.)
  • Bottle should be kept in cool, dry place. Can be refrigerated but should not be kept in the freezer.

WHILE WATCHING TELEVISION

  • Distance of at-least 10 feet should be maintained between the eyes and TV
  • Room should not be completely dark while watching TV.
  • Blinking should be adequate to maintain tear film on the eyes.
